Crew Foreman -Road/Highway Department
DEFINITION:
Under Hwy Superintendent supervision, is responsible for supervisory work of average difficulty in overseeing the performance of a work crew of light and heavy equipment operators and laborers in the construction, repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and drainage works and performs other related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Supervises and participates in the work of a crew of laborers and light and heavy equipment operators involved in the construction, repair of roads and bridges; supervises road crews in loading, hauling and spreading materials such as iron ore, fill dirt and gravel or cover stone; supervises road construction crew in putting in concrete culverts and laying hot mix; supervises crew in putting in concrete culverts for drainage; explains procedures and methods to workers; review work while in progress and upon completion; may operate light and/or heavy equipment such as dump truck, grader, bulldozer, grader and scraper. May be called out for emergency repairs and required to work standby and overtime.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Some knowledge of procedures, methods and materials applied, in the specific area of supervisory responsibility (e.g. road, bridges, drainage or sanitation). Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with employees; follow oral and written instructions and keep simple records; ability to operate light and/or heavy equipment to a reasonable degree.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent approved by Louisiana Department of Education
Training and Experience: Two (2) years experience as foreman or other responsible supervisory positions or as Equipment Operator II.
License: Class A CDL with Air Brake and Combination Endorsement.
