Crew Foreman -Mowing Road/Highway Department
DEFINITION:
Under Highway Superintendent supervision, is responsible for supervisory work of average difficulty in overseeing the performance of a work crew in the operation of mow equipment along roadways throughout the parish and perform other related work of the Highway Department as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Supervises and participates in the work of a crew of laborers and light equipment operators involved in the mowing, weed eating, and maintenance (e.g. pothole repair) of right-of ways; inspects and adjust equipment as needed to ensure longevity and safety: explains procedures and methods to workers to ensure a safe working environment; review work while in progress and upon completion (e.g. remove debris and obstacles as needed in front of crews, prevent damage to road signs/mailboxes, and assist with repairs or clean up if done).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Some knowledge of procedures, methods and materials applied in the specific area of supervisory responsibilities (e.g. mowing, weed eating, pothole repair). Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with employees; follow oral and written instructions and keep simple records; ability to operate light equipment to a reasonable degree.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent approved by Louisiana Department of Education
Training and Experience: Two (2) years’ experience as a foreman or other responsible supervisory positions
